One possible explanation as to why the wedding band is worn on the left ring finger dates back to an early Egyptian belief that the vena amoris (vein of love) ran directly from the heart to the third finger of the left hand.

For lefties, the natural direction of rotation is counterclockwise.

In fencing, the best practitioners must practise, practise, and practise some more to develop the necessary edge of reacting rather than thinking.  Because most fencers are right handed, they don't usually have the opportunity to practise against a leftie.  This gives an obvious edge to the left handed sparrer.

Lefty Language:
The Latin word for "right" is dexter, from which we get the word dextrous. 
The word ambidextrous literally means "both right."
